ST MARKS AT THE CENTRE OF CARNIVAL 2017

The rumours that have been spreading for some days have been confirmed. As the local press reports today, the next Carnival (11-28 February 2017) will once again see St Mark’s Square and its surrounding area at the centre of the event with shows and concerts until 8pm and only the evening festivities moved to the Arsenale. St Mark’s Square will host the Parade of the Marys (18 February), officially opening the ‘dances’, while throughout the celebrations the Square will host craftsmen’s workshops recalling the ancient trades. There will finally be three flights from the bell-tower: on 19 February the flight of the angel, on 26 February the flight of the eagle and on 28 February the ‘flying away’ of the lion to close the carousing. A Carnival that, as the Associazione Piazza San Marco hopes, will be able to combine culture and entertainment, always with respect for the historical-monumental value of the place.
