A BIG MUSEUM CENTRE TO BE CREATED IN ST MARK’S SQUARE?

An interesting circular museum exhibition area could be created according to the Fondazione Musei Civici with the intervention of Generali in the Procuratie Vecchie and the spaces given on loan for use to the Comune di Venezia. It would go from the Procuratie Vecchie to the Ala Napoleonic, connecting with the cultural circuit of the Procuratie Nuove, the Correr, the Palazzo Reale, the Museo Archeologico and the Biblioteca Marciana with the Salone Sansoviniano. Discussions have begun, as reported by Enrico Tantucci in the Nuova Venezia today, with the managing director of Generali Philippe Donnet (in photo-il Piccolo) who will soon officially present the definitive project for the works at the Procuratie Vecchie specifying what the company intends doing in the exhibition spaces available. The Fondazione Musei Civici believes in the creation of a possible important circular museum centre. Not by chance, Tantucci notes that Generali has a rich archaeological collection: finds that came to light during some excavations made in Piazza Venezia, Rome, and are currently kept in the prestigious Palazzo Venezia. This collection could perhaps find a place in the St Mark’s area. If the whole operation goes ahead, the Square and the entire St Mark’s area would certainly become a cultural-museum site of enormous prestige.
